Baltimore City lost one of its most charismatic, dedicated, and beloved coaches and members of the community: Travis Chapman, Sr. Travis was involved with youth baseball and softball for 30 years and served as a baseball and softball coach within the Baltimore Orioles RBI League since 1997.
Travis started his coaching career in Baltimore City at Leon Day Park, where he was instrumental in its development. More recently, his program, the Baltimore Rattlers, impacted hundreds of inner city youth participating in the 10 to 12 baseball division, 13 to 15 baseball division, 16 to 18 baseball division, and 14 to 18 softball division within the Orioles RBI League. In 2016, he was a coach of the Junior Orioles RBI team that won the RBI Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament to advance to the RBI World Series. This was the first time in nearly 30 years of the Orioles RBI League that a team advanced to the RBI World Series. Additionally, Travis worked for Baltimore City Recreation and Parks, assisting with the baseball and softball operations.
Travis will be remembered for his humor, smile, and passion for the youth of Baltimore and the game of baseball. He will truly be missed.
