Youth Baseball and Softball

The Nationals are committed to promoting youth baseball and softball through a progressive, multi-faceted Team UP program, hosting clinics, coordinating player visits, and recognizing significant youth baseball championship achievements.

Youth baseball and softball athletes from the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia as well as local military children take part in free clinics at Nationals Park throughout the season. Participants receive hands-on instruction from Nationals coaches, who offer tips on the art of batting, fielding, pitching and base running.

• INOVA Youth Baseball Clinics - The Nationals host a series of youth clinics as part of the team's efforts to increase participation and interest in baseball and softball programs around the D.C. region. Nationals' coaches work with local youth baseball and softball players ages eight through 14. Clinics are free and include on-field instruction, four tickets to a Nationals home game and a post-clinic autograph session with a Nationals player. Registration is not open to the public.
• Field Maintenance Clinic - The Nationals and the Baseball Tomorrow Fund (BTF) partner to host the Field Maintenance Clinic at Nationals Park. Nationals groundskeepers instruct adult representatives from local youth baseball and softball leagues on the fundamentals of groundskeeping, including proper maintenance techniques to keep fields in playable condition. BTF also provides a $10,000 grant to a local non-profit organization for the upkeep and renovation of a local baseball field. Registration is not open to the public.
• PLAY Clinic - Developed by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) in 2004, PLAY (Promoting a Lifetime of Activity for Youth) was designed to encourage youth throughout the country to be active, eat right, sustain a healthy lifestyle and stay away from performance enhancing drugs. During the clinic local youth ages eight through 14 participate in baseball training and receive lessons on health and conditioning from Nationals players and trainers as well as PLAY staff. Registration is not open to the public.
• MLB Pitch, Hit and Run Competition - The MLB Pitch, Hit and Run (PHR) program provides children ages seven through 14 the opportunity to showcase their baseball talents in a free nationwide skills competition. The winners move on to the national finals at the MLB All-Star Game. Contact your local youth baseball or softball organization for further details.
• Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association Clinic - In coordination with the MLBPAA, the Nationals host the Legends for Youth Clinic for DC-area youth ages eight through 14. Registration is not open to the public.

The Champions Day series is a Washington Nationals program that recognizes area teams that have won championship titles. On two pre-selected dates during the season, eligible teams are invited to Nationals Park to participate in an on-field, pregame recognition ceremony. Teams receive a digital copy of the Champions Day pregame ceremony, team picture at Nationals Park, a Washington Nationals Champions Day T-shirt and a complimentary ticket.
