As the home of the national pastime in the Nation's Capital, the Washington Nationals are proud to work with the large community of military bases, installations and hospitals that serve as permanent or temporary homes to military service members and their families living in the Washington, D.C. region.
The Battle of the Bases softball tournament serves as an extension of the intramural season at each of the military bases in the National Capital Region.

Through the Nats on Base initiative, the Nationals aim to provide year-round experiences that contribute to the quality of life for service members and their families in the Washington D.C. region, reaching them where they live and work - as well as in-Park. The team works with regional and base leadership to develop programming and identify outreach opportunities at local installations.
2019 Highlights:
On Military Appreciation Day, the Nationals provide two complimentary tickets to active duty, dependents, veterans, retirees and reservists with military ID or proof of service, while supplies last.

The Washington Nationals and DoD-MWR Libraries are working together to make reading even more fun each summer. Each library or participating CYP program will receive Elementary-aged activity books with puzzles and games to play, reading lists, as well as prize vouchers good for two complimentary tickets to a Nationals game for program completion. In 2019, military families attended a private pregame event with Nationals closer, Sean Doolittle, who read aloud to the group following a Q&A with the children.
The Nationals offer premium seating in the Delta Sky360 Club for select military groups and their families during every home game. At the end of the third inning, honorees are recognized on the NatsHD scoreboard and receive a standing ovation from fans.
Tickets are allocated through military hospitals and support organizations and are not available for individual distribution.
Sean Doolittle, Howie Kendrick, and their families strive to make the Salute to Service experience as special as possible on days when the Nationals host surviving family members. During Salute to Service games that honor TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) families, Sean and Howie invite the group to view batting practice from the field and meet with them privately before the game. Participants share stories of their lost loved ones, take photos with the players, receive autographs and a gift, and see pictures of their loved ones on NatsHD during the Salute.
The Nationals & PenFed Credit Union created a dedicated military section in the Right Field stands at Nationals Park in 2018. For all regular season home games, the Nationals and PenFed offer a select number of tickets to military members for free.

The Patriotic Series presented by SAIC celebrates America and the national pastime at Nationals Park. These games feature on-field programming, pregame ceremonies and patriotic uniforms to honor service members and their families.

The Nationals dedicate a special game to honor and celebrate each branch of the military. At each of these games, representatives from the branch will participate in the pregame ceremony and the Salute to Service, and members of the branch and their supporters can get special tickets that include a Nationals giveaway item and a donation to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Army Emergency Relief, Coast Guard Mutual Assistance or the Air Force Aid Society for their respective dates.

The Washington Nationals are proud to partner with USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore to support military families. Every Sunday home game of the season, military families can enjoy a Nationals game together and receive front-of-line privileges for Kids Run the Bases after the game.
Additionally, the Nationals and USO-Metro host a "Date Night at the Ballpark" every month, giving active duty service members and their significant others the opportunity to connect while socializing with fellow military couples.
Nationals players embrace opportunities to show their personal gratitude to our nation's heroes. Throughout the season, players visit with service members, veterans and their families at local bases, military hospitals and at the ballpark.
Military service members looking to reenlist, enlist, be promoted, or retire can host their ceremonies at Nationals Park. Along with the ceremony, service members and their guests will get a special, behind-the-scenes look of the ballpark.
